Are Employees Excited About AI Adoption? You Make The Call

Research from Gartner describes how nearly two-thirds of employees express strong enthusiasm for using artificial intelligence in their daily work, yet organizational and cultural barriers often prevent that interest from translating into productivity gains.

A July 2025 survey of 2,986 employees shows that 65 percent of workers surveyed are excited about AI, contradicting assumptions by many senior executives that resistance from staff is the main reason AI initiatives fail to create business value.

Instead, the survey highlights social and cultural dynamics: 37 percent of employees say they do not use available AI tools because their colleagues are not using them, indicating that lack of visible peer adoption and supportive norms can stall usage even when tools are accessible.

The survey portrays AI rollouts as frequently rushed and top-down, driven by executive urgency rather than workforce readiness. Many introductions of AI proceed with limited involvement from HR, which leads to poor adoption rates, misaligned expectations between leaders and employees, and little realization of expected returns.

Gartner's analysts note a growing gap between positive attitudes toward AI and actual usage. Employees may be optimistic about AI's potential but reluctant to be early adopters when managers and peers do not actively engage with the tools.

I am genuinely enthusiastic about AI. In my experience, it doesn't eliminate work or magically add more; it simply lets me accomplish more in less time, which helps me tackle the backlog that used to sit untouched. It is a tool that accelerates effort, not a substitute for it. I recognize that many remain skeptical, and that's understandable. As with any emerging technology, the ultimate verdict will come with time.
