Economists analyzed nearly two decades of American Time Use Survey data to measure how exposure to generative AI affects work and leisure time across occupations.
They found that after the widespread introduction of tools like ChatGPT, workers in roles more exposed to AI put in significantly longer hours and sacrificed leisure, with higher AI exposure linked to roughly three extra work hours and over three fewer leisure hours per week in 2022–2023.
Although these workers often receive higher wages, much of the productivity gain appears to be captured by firms and consumers rather than employees, and AI-enabled surveillance of remote workers further extends workdays, leaving AI-exposed employees less satisfied despite greater efficiency.

So, the question for our readers is: Is AI Causing You To Work More Or Less? You Make The Call
Here is the opinion of one of the McCalmon editorial staff:
Jack McCalmon, Esq.
AI saves me time when performing certain tasks and, as a result, I accomplish more in a day. Instead of taking that additional time for myself, I fill it with more work so it has not lessened my workload, but that is my choice.
